This grounding technique is a coping strategy that can help someone experiencing high anxiety reconnect with the present moment through connecting the mind and body. In this video, I show you how to take this grounding technique and turn it into a drama activity!
On a piece of paper write down:
5 things around you that you can see
4 things around you that you can touch
3 things around you that you can hear
2 things around you that you can smell
1 emotion you are currently feeling
Next, pick one thing you have written down from each category. Now comes the fun part! Using your chosen words, create a short scene or story. Your story must somehow incorporate each of your chosen words from the grounding activity.
Share your story!
To take this a step further, act out your story or be the “director” of your story and cast your peers as the character(s) from your story!
